Enhancing the quality infrastructure is not only a technical procedure, but also a strategic investment in competitiveness, trust, and market access. On February 10, 2026, TIGARA Project, an EU-funded initiative for supporting trade, industry, growth, and rapid market access, implemented in Egypt by United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in partnership with the Egyptian government, held the first workshop within a series of workshops dedicated to develop Egypt’s national quality policy. This workshop brought together policymakers, technical experts, and private sector representatives to assess the current system and identify practical pathways for improvement.
Through UNIDO’s policy approach, the participants reviewed the national assessments, examined the gaps in standards, metrology, accreditation, and conformity assessment, and agreed on priority actions to enhance inter-institutional coordination. The workshop also launched an initiative to establish a national policy task force to guide subsequent steps and ensure a structured and inclusive process.
Mr. Essam El-Naggar, Chairman of the General Organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC), affirmed that developing an integrated national quality policy is a fundamental pillar for supporting competitiveness of Egyptian economy, stressing that quality is no longer a supplementary option but has become a crucial element in enhancing confidence in the Egyptian product and opening new markets for national exports.
He explained that the quality infrastructure including standards, accreditation, and conformity assessment represents the backbone of the modern trade system, directly contributing to facilitating the movement of exports and imports and ensuring product compliance with the international standards.
This process ultimately aims to provide national stakeholders with a shared understanding, a robust evidence base, and the coordination mechanisms necessary to jointly develop a national quality policy in Egypt. By bringing institutions together around a common vision and structured dialogue, this series of workshops fosters collective ownership and sustainable cooperation to forge a future and cohesive framework to the quality infrastructure that supports industrial and trade growth.
