GOEIC has a unique system of laboratories throughout the Arab Republic of Egypt to maintain control over quality and safety of food commodities, and food laboratories in GOEIC are among the first Egyptian laboratories that sought international accreditation and they were internationally accredited in 2004 by internationally recognized organizations, (such as A2LA, NLAB, DAP, EGAC, etc.) in accordance with ISO / IEC 17025. GOEIC laboratories always maintain the international accreditation with constant improvement, by developing PT programs, and increasing its areas of accreditation till the present. Laboratories are also subject to annual inspection and auditing by the Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC), to ensure that the requirements of Standard 17025/2017 are met and to check the efficiency of the quality system for all methods of analysis adopted by laboratories. GOEIC has 60 internationally-accredited tests developed by EGAC, and laboratories accreditation certificates are valid until 2020 in various GOEIC branches. GOEIC also has a large number of quality test laboratories to maintain control over quality and safety of food commodities.
Residues Laboratories
Estimation of heavy elements, in food products, juices, water, industrial materials, textiles, toys, leather products, tableware and crystal.
Estimation of fatty acids in vegetable oils, the class and purity of olive oil, in addition to the estimation of mineral oils in palm oil.
Estimation of pesticide residues in food products, fatty acids in dairy products, and Capsaicin in chili and its products.
Estimation of mycotoxin in foods, and the rate of additives (benzoic and sorbic acids) in foods and beverages.
Estimation of the industrial sweeteners in foods and beverages.
Microbiology Testing Laboratories
Microbiology testing laboratories determine how microbial content in foods, in general, and meat and poultry, in particular, is in conformity with local and international standards in order to ensure safety of exported food industries, crops and materials involved in the manufacturing of food to ensure that it is free of pathogenic microbes.
GOEIC Microbiology laboratories are one of the first food laboratories in Egypt to detect genetically modified foods in order to achieve the desire of exporters in conducting the analysis as one of the most important requirements for the importer in the Gulf countries and Europe.
Organoleptic and Non-destructive Inspection Laboratories
Organoleptic inspection laboratory is responsible for performing organoleptic inspection of food samples (in terms of taste, color, odor, texture, moisture and solids), such tests are important as a preliminary indication of the shelf life of food products.
In addition, grain inspection laboratory is responsible for performing grain tests, such as impurities, specific weight, moisture, gluten and the falling number), which are important as a preliminary indication of the shelf life of grains
Chemical Testing Laboratories
The laboratory detects the quality of foods and conformity of its natural and chemical properties with local and international specifications by estimating the protein, refractive index, boiling point, histamine, and total dissolved solids in juices and other goods.
Inspection of meat, fish, dairy and its products and all kinds of food products
Inspection of eyeglasses, frames and medical lenses, sandpaper, soap, detergents and disinfectants, cookware, thermoplastic, pens, crystal, glass cups, porcelain and chinaware, sanitary diapers, handkerchiefs, sanitary pads, fertilizers, cement, adhesives and glue, paper and cardboard, inks, paintings, polymers, various packaging for food industries and agricultural crops.

Calibration Laboratories
The laboratory verifies the accuracy of devices and equipment used in inspecting and testing and determines how measurements of used devices and equipment are in conformity with local and international specifications by conducting calibrations on sensitive laboratory scaling devices at client site in a range up to 320 g using equipment of precise calibration that is referenced in SI unit. These laboratories also conduct specialized courses in the field of calibrating measurement instruments and devices as well as semi-annual verification services for scaling devices to avoid scale imbalance during the calibration period
Food laboratories exist in various branches of GOEIC and with a total of 7 laboratories located in
Cairo Airport, Alexandria Port (Dekheila), Damietta Port, Suez Port (Adabiya), Aswan port, Port Said port and Safaga port, with a large number of quality testing laboratories available inside GOEIC to maintain control over quality and safety of food and chemical commodities in compliance with the Egyptian or international standard specifications
Tasks and Functions
GOEIC laboratories are monitoring the safety of food imports to Egypt that are of animal and vegetal origin and prohibiting entry of imports that are not in conformity with the Egyptian and international specifications in order to protect the Egyptian consumer.
Inspection of exported commodities in accordance with rules and laws governing such matter.
Laboratories play a major and effective role in promoting Egyptian exports and improving its competitiveness and conformity with the quality standards followed in the international markets. In addition, Laboratories issue approved certificates of analyses it performs prior to exporting
Quality Management System:
Food laboratories apply standards and programs of quality control and assurance according to the requirements of ISO17025 and ISO 7218 (especially at Microbiology laboratories).
Laboratories engages regularly in international proficiency test programs to ensure the efficiency of results of inspection and analysis in partnership with international bodies and organizations, such as FEPAS, FAPAS, EUROFINS and PIPEA

Laboratories provide the following distinguished services as well:
Inspecting and analyzing food commodities samples for the public as well as inspection and revision companies, in addition to providing theoretical and practical technical training on the inspection mechanism provided by external actors who have a previous experience in the field of training. Qualifying external laboratories for accreditation in accordance with requirements of the international standards ISO17025 and ISO 7218. Making laboratory comparisons between other accredited entities.
