As a part of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade’s policy, and in implementation of the directives of Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, regarding development of the export and import control system and enhancing international cooperation, the (GOEIC) participated in the international program of the Strategic Trade and Security Management Academy (SSTMA), that was hosted by Washington D.C.
The GOEIC’s participation came as an invitation of the Office of Export Control and Border Security (EXBS) of the US Department of State, and in the presence of a select group of experts, officials and participants from a number of countries around the world.
The GOEIC made a specialized presentation on the Egyptian experiment in monitoring strategic trade and dual-use goods, addressing the development of regulatory frameworks, technical procedures, and institutional coordination mechanisms applied in this field.
The program included a series of lectures and workshops on the latest international practices in classifying dual-use goods, assessing risks, and applying international control lists.
The program also included a field visit to Baltimore Port to learn about using risk analysis and artificial intelligence technologies in targeting and inspecting shipments.
Engineer Essam El-Naggar, Chairman of the GOEIC, affirmed that the participation reflects promoting the international cooperation and confidence in Egyptian expertise in the field of strategic trade control, referring to the GOEIC’s keenness to benefit from the latest global expertise and technologies to develop its control system, in order to achieve a balance between facilitating trade, protecting economic security, and fulfilling Egypt’s international obligations.
He added that the GOEIC continues to develop its technical and regulatory capabilities and localize best international practices, which supports the efficiency of the foreign trade system and enhances Egypt’s position as a reliable partner in the international trade system.
