Dr. Mostafa Madbouly praised the advanced solutions and high-quality national products provided by the company, which contribute to supporting the comprehensive digital transformation efforts of the energy sector, raising the efficiency of the network, and ensuring the continuity of electricity supply, thus enhancing Egypt’s position as a regional energy hub.
At the beginning, the Prime Minister and his companions listened to a presentation by Mr. Sebastian Reyes, Regional President of Schneider Electric for the North East Africa and Levant region, about the establishment of the factory and the company’s investments in the Egyptian market, noting that the Schneider Electric factory was established in Badr City in 2009, and the factory is a major facility for the company, and extends over an area of 44,581 square meters, allocated to a state-of-the-art building based on one of the international standards, adding that the annual production capacity of the factory is 6,000 medium voltage units, and 5,000 low voltage units.
During the Prime Minister and his entourage’s inspection of the company’s exhibition of low and medium voltage cells, cell production lines and automated control centers, Mr. Sebastian Reyes explained that Schneider Electric’s total investments in Egypt since entering the Egyptian market 37 years ago amounted to about 320 million euros, adding that a new production line for electrical panels was added in 2020 with a value of 10 million euros.
The Prime Minister had a friendly conversation with one of the factory workers, inquiring about his specialization and the suitability of the salary he receives from the company. The worker replied that his original specialization was not in the field of electricity, and that he had changed his career path and received specialized education and training provided by the factory, and that the salary was very good.
Following this, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly pressed the button to open the gate of the new factory, signaling the opening of the expansion works at the factory. Engineer Arda Chemen, director of the Schneider Electric factory in Badr City, indicated that investments worth 8 million euros were injected in 2023 to implement an expansion of the company’s factory in Badr City, on an area of 10,000 square meters, to produce low and medium voltage panels and ring main units (RMU). He added that the goal of these expansions is to increase production capacity by about 30%, as well as to localize the industry and expand the export base to regional and global markets.
The Prime Minister and his entourage inspected the factory's expansion works and production stages, which included the new production line for low and medium voltage cells, and the local assembly line for speed changers with the aim of rationalizing energy and carbon emissions, in addition to samples of the factory's products ready for export to a number of countries.
Meanwhile, the director of the Schneider Electric factory in Badr City explained that the percentage of local components in the factory’s products increased from 55% in 2021 to 81% in 2024, with a plan to reach 85% of the local components in manufacturing, noting that 50% of the production is allocated for export to more than 35 countries around the world.
The Prime Minister and his entourage also inspected the training center for technicians working in product service and after-sales services, where Engineer Arda Chemen stated that the training center provides world-class training programs in various specializations needed by the factory, noting that these international programs have been localized at the company's factory in Egypt, instead of sending technicians and workers to receive this high-level training abroad. He pointed out that the target during 2026 is to train about 500 specialized engineers and technicians, in addition to providing this training to foreign companies upon request, as well as cooperating to train students of technical education schools during their years of study or after graduation. He emphasized in this regard that we are exporting skilled labor and talents of specialized engineers abroad.
The Prime Minister and his entourage listened to a presentation on the factory's sustainability plan, where Engineer Arda Chemen explained that the Schneider Electric factory in Badr is the largest of its kind in the Middle East and is a leading model in industrial innovation and environmental conservation. In this regard, he pointed out that the factory has obtained a "zero carbon emissions" certificate, as 20% of its energy needs are met through solar panels, while the remainder is supplied by other renewable energy sources.
He added that the factory is working to reduce the use of single-use plastics by replacing them with recycled packaging, with the aim of reaching 50% "green materials" in its products, after already achieving 35%.
Regarding Schneider Electric’s most prominent projects in Egypt, Mr. Sebastian Reyes pointed out that the company, in partnership with the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company, contributed to the development of smart control centers in the Egyptian electricity grid, within the state’s plan for digital transformation in the energy sector, to raise the efficiency of the grid and support sustainability, with investments amounting to 4.6 billion pounds for the first phase, and 5 billion pounds for the second phase.
The regional president of Schneider Electric for North East Africa and the Levant added that the first phase of the automated control project in Sharm El Sheikh was completed in 2022, and the development of four other control centers in Cairo Governorate was completed, in addition to the renewal of more than 3,900 sites on the electricity distribution network, along with training the technical staff of the Ministry of Electricity to ensure the efficiency and continuity of operation.
He pointed out that Schneider Electric collaborated with the Grand Egyptian Museum in designing and implementing the smart museum concept by employing its global expertise and solutions in the field of smart infrastructure management, as well as participating in the King Khufu Boat Museum project, which won the award for the best smart energy solutions and energy management system project in the world for 2023, noting the company’s contribution to the New Delta project by providing various electrical solutions and equipment to meet the requirements of this huge national project.
In conclusion, the Prime Minister was careful to take a commemorative photo with the engineers and workers at the factory.
