Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, the Prime Minister, holds a meeting today to follow up on the executive procedures and steps to reduce the customs clearance time for goods and commodities, in the presence of Mr. Ahmed Kouchouk, Minister of Finance, Eng. Hassan El Khatib, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Major General/ Essam El Naggar, Chairman of the General Organization for Export and Import Control, Ms. Sherine El Sharkawy, First Assistant Minister of Finance for Economic Affairs, and officials from the two Ministries.
The Prime Minister commenced the meeting through confirming the significant interest and importance given currently by the government for reducing the customs release time to the shortest possible time, via accelerating the procedures for releasing various goods and commodities at ports, through coordination and following-up among various competent authorities, in a way that contributes to achieving the government’s targets in such regard; for providing and making available various types of goods and commodities necessary to meet the citizens' needs, as well as the raw materials for the industrial sector.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister indicated the government's interest and work to facilitate the customs procedures, in addition to securing the production inputs to many industries and production processes for achieving more stability in the Egyptian market.
During the meeting, the Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade pointed out the state's keenness to improve the customs release system, in a way that contributes to providing facilitations to the business community and facilitating the movement of trade, pointing out the importance of coordinating various efforts in this regard between the entities concerned with reducing the time and cost of customs release processes.
In that same context, the Minister explained that there is strenuous efforts exerted for adopting immediate measures to accelerate the pace of work according to the developed customs system, by compressing the timetable for the customs release at various ports, and getting the benefit from the advantages provided by the "Single Window" Platform, in addition to raising the efficiency of the human element through continuous training in line with the development and mechanization of the customs system.
In his turn, Major General/ Essam El-Naggar provides an explanatory presentation regarding the measures adopted to enhance the performance of the entities concerned with the customs release system and reducing the time of releasing goods, referring in this context that within the framework of commitment to laws, regulations and resolutions regulating the work of the entities concerned with the customs release system, the GOEIC and all relevant entities were conducting the inspection throughout the week except for the weekly and official holidays. He added "due to the importance of ensuring the continuity of the customs release system without interruption, necessary measures were adopted to ensure the permanent operation of system throughout the year.
In this context, Chairman of the GOEIC demonstrated that after the issuance of this resolution and execution thereof, the average time for obtaining conformities for the visual inspection of shipments submitted to the GOEIC displayed a noticeable improvement in December 2024 compared to November 2024.
The Counselor Mohamed El Homsany, the official spokesperson of of Egypt's Cabinet, stated that the meeting witnessed an agreement on studying a number of procedures that contribute to the speed of customs release, and benefiting from certain reports of the regulatory authorities that proposed a number of solutions in this regard, in a way that contributes to improving the customs release time, whether related to mechanizing procedures or mitigating burdens.
At the end of the meeting, the Prime Minister commanded for quickly studying these proposed procedures and measures by the relevant ministries in preparation for approving and implementing what is agreed upon as soon as possible.
