Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, holds a meeting to discuss the European Mechanism for adjusting the carbon border in the framework of enhancing the competitiveness of Egyptian exports in compliance with the mechanism. This meeting attended by Lieutenant General Engineer/ Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development, Minister of Industry and Transport, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, Major General/ Essam El-Naggar, Chairman of the Organization of Export and Import Control, Engineer/ Khaled Sofi, Chairman of Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality, Dr. Nermin Abu El-Atta, Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister for Sustainable Development, Dr. Amani El-Wasal, Head of Agreements and Foreign Trade Sector, Director of the Export Development Fund, and officials from various concerned authorities.
During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development explained that an executive plan will have been completed in the coming period to adjust the carbon border, indicating that, in this respect, the economic sectors, for which carbon footprint is reduced, will be identified as a first stage, in an effort to activate the energy efficiency in the industrial sector, in addition to identifying the exporting factories and companies of high priority to obtain financial support for greening their production lines, along with informing exporters and investors with the environmental requirements and standards entailed for export, in order to attract green financing sources for these companies and factories, as well as issuing a set of motivating procedures to utilize renewable energy sources, establishing a solar energy service platform, and opening new export markets for national products.
On her part, the Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation presented the Ministry's efforts to support the industrial sector in coordination with development partners in connection with the carbon border adjustment mechanism, whereas she demonstrated some activities in this regard, including providing funding in form of subsidies to support the industrial sectors for which carbon border adjustment steps are taken, including the efforts exerted with the European Union and its financing institutions to provide technical support.
Dr. Rania Al-Mashat pointed out the importance of choosing definite goals within the executive plan to focus on.
Dr. Nermin Abu Al-Atta also demonstrated a background on the European Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism and sectors meant by this mechanism, and the role of adjusting carbon border according to this mechanism in enhancing the competitiveness of Egyptian industrial products and the entry of national exports into European Markets.
The Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister for Sustainable Development reviewed the efforts exerted by the concerned ministries in the framework of the technical committee that was set up under the chairmanship of the Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development, to support the competitiveness of Egyptian exports and the compatibility for adjusting carbon border, in addition to the proposals discussed by the committee in this respect.
