Microbiology Testing Laboratories

 

 Microbiology testing laboratories determine the conformity of microbial content in foods, in general, and meat and poultry, in particular, with local and international standards in order to ensure safety of imports and exported food industries, crops, and materials involved in the manufacturing of food to ensure that it is free of pathogenic microbes.

Microbiology test laboratories are located at the following GOEIC branches:   (Cairo Airport, Dekheila, Port Said, Damietta, Al Adabiya and Aswan)

Microbiology laboratories detect pathogenic bacteria and fungi in the following products:

 

 Foods of animal origin

  • Meat and poultry and its products
  • Dairy and its products
  • Fish and its products

Foods of vegetal origin

  • Fresh, dried and preserved vegetables and fruits
  • Spices and herbs
  • Juices, jam and canned goods
  • Gum / grains (like soybeans and beans)

Processed foods

  • Like macaroni, mustard, mayonnaise etc.

Paper products

  • Napkins, kitchen roll towels, wet wipes, children diapers and women sanitary pads

Water quality

  • Natural mineral and non-mineral water, drinking water and treated irrigation water

Detergents and disinfectants

  • Inspection of the cleansing power of detergents and disinfectants

Food factories, primary production lines and animal production farms

  • Analysis of air swabs, different surfaces swabs, swabs from hands of workers in manufacturing sites and animal production farms and swabs of all production and food circulation locations

GOEIC Microbiology laboratories are one of the first food laboratories in Egypt to detect genetically modified foods in order to achieve the desire of exporters in conducting the analysis as one of the most important requirements for the importer in the Gulf countries and Europe.

Detection of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa bacteria in water

Detection of Legionella in water by using RT-PCR device. Reception of results within (24 H)

 Inspection and analysis of food commodities samples for the public, as well as inspection and audit companies;

Courses on food industries, food quality and safety as well as for university students;

Contribution to accrediting other laboratories in Egypt, and the Arab States, in addition to qualifying laboratories for accreditation;

 Providing technical advice for factories.

- Training course on food safety and biological risks

- Training course on uncertainty calculation in laboratories

- An introductory Training course on genetically modified foods and methods of how to detect them (theoretically and practically by using RT-PCR device).

- Registration is now open for those working outside of GOEIC
